Temperature Logger

A Temperature Logger is a temperature measuring instrument.

Functions of temperature logger

  1. Measurement: built-in Temperature Sensor and external temperature sensor can be connected to measure temperature;
  2. Recording and storage: automatically record and store measured temperature data;
  3. Data transmission: transfer or download the saved measurement data to the computer through some means (such as RS232, RS485, USB interface, etc.);
  4. Programming: such as setting sampling rate, data transmission method and interval, selecting temperature sensor type, alarm setting, etc.;
  5. Analysis: perform necessary analysis on temperature data through built-in software.

The difference between paperless temperature logger and paper temperature logger

Different recording methods

A paper temperature logger is to collect data such as temperature, humidity, Flow, pressure, vacuum degree, etc. directly on a special recording paper; while a paperless temperature logger records data on the internal storage of the instrument. Therefore, a paper temperature logger needs consumables such as recording paper, ink cartridges/ribbons/recording pens when recording, so it is called a paper temperature logger, while a paperless temperature logger does not directly use paper, so it is called a paperless temperature logger.

Different ways of displaying data

Most paper temperature loggers display data through the LED on the front panel of the instrument. Due to the limitation of LED, it can only display English and numbers. If the recorder usually has a lot of data, the LED can only display the values of each channel in a cycle. Most paperless Recorders use LCD screens to display, which can not only display real-time values in digital form, but also convert them into bar graphs, curve graphs and other forms for display. Not only can it display English, some can also display Chinese and other languages.

Different ways to view data

With paper temperature loggers, you need to use recording paper to see the changes in recorded data, and view the general trend changes based on the values and curves on the recording paper. With paperless temperature loggers, you can not only view the detailed values of each time point recorded in the memory through the instrument screen, but also transfer historical data to a computer through an external storage card or instrument communication interface for analysis, processing, printing, and other operations.

At present, some paper temperature logger can also be equipped with optional communication functions. The logger communicates with the computer through the communication interface and communication software. The data recorded by the paper temperature logger can also be saved on the computer, and then the data can be analyzed, processed, printed, etc. through the computer software, thereby achieving the same functions as the paperless temperature logger. However, the communication interface and communication software of the paper temperature logger are optional, while communication interface is a standard configuration for most paperless temperature logger, and most of the communication software is also included.

Different extension functions

Due to the limitations of its mechanical transmission structure, paper temperature logger can only be equipped with a small number of functions such as alarm output, and the number of input channels cannot be too many. A small paper temperature logger (panel 144x144mm) can be expanded to 6 to 8 channels at most. If you want to connect Sensors with more channels, you must choose a larger size paper temperature logger, such as a large recorder with a panel size of 288x288mm.

Because paperless temperature loggers are circuit board structures, it is relatively easy to add input channels and other optional functions, and the volume is not greatly affected. Usually, a paperless temperature logger with a panel size of 144x144mm can be expanded to a maximum of 12 to 18 channels. It can also be equipped with alarm output, Power Distribution output, analog output, flow accumulation, temperature and pressure compensation, PID control and other functions according to the expansion of the instrument. A paperless temperature logger with a large panel size of 288x288mm can be expanded to more than 32 channels.

At present, there is also a modular paperless temperature logger that can be expanded to more than 100 channels as needed. The modular paperless temperature logger consists of many recording and acquisition modules that are connected to the computer through a communication interface, and the configuration software on the computer realizes signal acquisition, display, recording, calculation, processing and other functions.

How to choose a temperature logger?

  1. It is recommended to use a paperless temperature logger when sampling and recording multiple points of information;
  2. If the operator is elderly, accustomed to using paper paperless temperature logger and has never used paperless temperature loggers, and is not easy to accept new things, it is recommended to use a paper temperature logger;
  3. If the operator is likely to falsify, it is recommended to use a paperless recorder (the process curve of a paper temperature logger can be falsified).
  4. Determine the working environment to be used. Different environments need different temperature loggers. It is not recommended to use one temperature and humidity logger in any environment to save money. Doing so may result in inaccurate data or failure to operate the project successfully. Here are a few examples:

Agriculture

This environment is the most special. When choosing a temperature logger in an agricultural environment, the most important thing is durability. You don’t need to consider how beautiful the instrument looks or how comprehensive its functions are. Choose the simplest and most suitable one. The most important thing to consider is waterproof and moisture-proof. During use, it is equally important for users to install and protect the instrument in the field, such as equipping it with a waterproof bag, a louvered box, etc.

Food industry

The temperature loggers are used frequently in food industry, and the main consideration is the ambient temperature of the instrument. Their application is restricted by the temperature of the environment. Generally, companies will indicate the instrument's usage environment and measurement environment.

Pharmaceutical industry

Generally, the temperature loggers are used in warehouses, workshops, clean rooms, cold storage, Refrigerators. These environments require less than 25 degrees, humidity around 45%-75%, you can choose the most common temperature and humidity logger. For cold storage and other occasions, you need to choose a logger with an external sensor, because the instrument host must be placed in normal temperature (which can extend the service life of the instrument), and the sensor must be put in the environment that needs to be detected.

Classification of temperature loggers

1. Based on recording medium: paper temperature logger, paperless temperature logger; among them, paper temperature logger is further divided into: long chart temperature logger, circular chart temperature logger.

2. Based on the channel: single channel temperature logger; dual channel temperature logger; multi-channel temperature logger.

The application of temperature loggers

Pharmaceutical industry

Observation records of ambient temperature in pharmaceutical workshops, warehouses, pharmacies, cold storage, etc.

Food industry

Observation and recording of environmental temperature in food workshops, warehouses, etc.

During food processing, storage and transportation, it is very important to keep track of whether the environment in which the food is located is in food Safety conditions. Excessive temperature and humidity can directly lead to food deterioration. If the temperature is too low or too high, it will also make the food taste worse and reduce the quality. The electronic temperature and humidity logger is lightweight and the size is comparable to that of an adult's palm. The core components are imported, ensuring the recording of data: temperature: ±0.5℃ accuracy, humidity: ±3%RH accuracy. The electronic temperature and humidity logger can automatically record the temperature and humidity values, and output the recorded values in the form of graphic tables (JPG, TXT, Excel) through PC intelligent analysis software, which is convenient for administrators to analyze and manage. It also has a built-in alarm function. When the temperature and humidity exceed the set high or low limits, the alarm automatically responds to promptly remind the staff to adjust the temperature and humidity in the food storage room or production workshop. Using an electronic temperature and humidity logger will simplify your work, save costs, and will not be interfered by many human factors, and objectively and truly reflect the recording process.

When using temperature loggers in the pharmaceutical and food industries, it is best to choose those that comply with the relevant standards of the US FDA.

Electronics Industry

Observation records of ambient temperatures in electronic workshops, clean environments, and computer rooms, etc.

Agricultural researches

Temperature recording of the plants’ growing environment.

In artificial climate and plastic greenhouse environment, the change of temperature and humidity directly affects the growth of crops, especially Industrial crops in the seedling stage. The electronic temperature and humidity logger will automatically record the temperature and humidity values, and output the recorded values in the form of graphic tables through PC intelligent analysis software, which is convenient for administrators to analyze and manage. It also has an automatic alarm function. When the temperature and humidity exceed the set high and low limits, the alarm will automatically respond and promptly remind the staff to adjust the temperature and humidity in the greenhouse or nursery room. Using an electronic temperature and humidity recorder simplifies your work, saves costs, and is not interfered by too many human factors, and truly reflects the recording process.

Transportation

During long-distance or ocean transportation, excessively high or low temperature and humidity in the warehouse will directly or indirectly affect the quality of the transported goods, especially when transporting frozen and refrigerated foods. The carrier and the shipper often have disputes over which party is responsible for the changes of the quality of the transported goods. To prevent such disputes, just put an electronic temperature and humidity logger in the warehouse before transportation and turn on the recording. After the goods arrive at the destination, read the temperature and humidity values of the warehouse during transportation. The PC software automatically generates three graphic tables in JPG, TXT, and Excel. The results are clear at a glance, and of course the responsibilities will be clear. The electronic temperature and humidity logger simplifies your work, and it is not interfered by many human factors. It can objectively and truly reflect the recording process. To a certain extent, it is also sound evidence to resolve disputes in this regard.

Others

Other occasions in which temperature recording is required.

Museum cultural relics and archives management: This is another major application area for temperature and humidity products, and loggers are very distinctive products in this area. Archives can be stored for a longer period under suitable temperature and humidity conditions, but once the temperature and humidity conditions are damaged, the paper will become brittle and important information will be lost. It is necessary to record the temperature and humidity of archives to prevent serious accidents. The use of temperature and humidity loggers will simplify the work of temperature and humidity recording, save the cost of cultural relics storage, and make this work scientific without being interfered by many human factors.

Building materials experiment: During the drying process of building materials, especially concrete, we should pay attention to its drying trend, which is one of the indicators for evaluating products and also provides reliable data for construction parties. The application of temperature and humidity loggers can record the data and provide it to building material researchers, which will be of great use for construction. Especially in military buildings, time is life. Accurately grasping drying time of concrete is a preemptive strike to fight against the enemy and provides a guarantee for effectively providing living forces to the battlefield. This function can be completed by the ESCORT collector (temperature and humidity logger).

Building acceptance: mainly reflected in the acceptance of intelligent buildings. Due to the large number of acceptance items in the construction industry, in addition to HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) indicators, other indicators such as radiation intensity and formaldehyde concentration that the construction department requires to meet human health indicators must also be monitored. These indicators are directly related to human health. If the testers are sent to enter these places and record for a long time without knowing these indicators, it is irresponsible for the personal health of the testers. The use of loggers will ensure that reliable data is obtained while protecting the personal safety of the testers to the maximum extent.

Blood bank storage. A hospital in France uses data loggers to monitor blood samples stored in cold storage. The head of the hospital's blood sample department said that the critical storage temperature of blood in the blood bank should not exceed 60°C. The ideal temperature is 20°C. Data loggers can be placed in the cold room or around the container to monitor the temperature for a long time, and send out an alarm to remind concerned staff to take measures when the temperature exceeds the warning line.

Power plant environmental monitoring. The Charlotte Nelson Power Station in Northern California uses data loggers to monitor the ambient temperature of various equipment rooms around the nuclear power plant, monitoring to ensure the equipment’s temperature to stay between 30 degrees Fahrenheit and 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

History of Temperature Loggers

Early temperature loggers were all paper-based, i.e. paper temperature loggers.

With the popularization and widespread use of computers, paperless temperature loggers were produced, and their market share has increased sharply year by year due to their more accurate data recording, more convenient data storage, and more convenient data analysis functions; paperless loggers with USB interfaces have greatly facilitated the download and preservation of data.

The USB flash drive temperature loggers and button temperature loggers launched in recent years have brought the miniaturization and micro-miniaturization of temperature loggers to the extreme. Wireless temperature and humidity loggers also make it possible to record and manage multiple points of temperature and humidity in a certain area.

Because paper temperature loggers must be used in some occasions according to regulations, such as: High-Temperature sterilization pots used in medical treatment, refrigeration, food production for export, etc. Paper temperature loggers do not require computer knowledge and are suitable for the management and control of some low-knowledge Level employees, and thus currently paper temperature loggers cannot be completely replaced by paperless loggers.
